Pastor's Perspective, Sunday, October 23, 2011

I’ve been asked by our church Board of Deacons to share the document that I outlined for  them at our recent meeting. This document outlines the accomplishments at Silver Lake Community Church as to its foundation and the vision for the next phase of the development process.
It has become apparent that God is leading us to enter a new phase in the development process of SLCC.
1.    Our job has just begun! Recently the local newspaper indicated that 9,000 people live in the area we are serving. As we unite with other churches serving this area, we realize that combined, we are far short of God’s vision for these needy communities.
2.    We are being called to enter into “spiritual warfare” against Satan and his demons who are holding captive so many children, youth, and adults. Pray specifically for children and youth who are being brainwashed to accept the immoral and deadly lifestyle that our culture has adopted. Pray daily for God to open “blind eyes.” And “deaf ears.”
3.    Please make yourself available to God. Ask Him to prepare your heart and mind to serve wherever He leads you. The following are some of the opportunities to serve:

(i)            If you have relatives and friends living in this vast area, please make it your mission to ask them to unite with you on Saturday night (5:00 PM) or Wednesday evening (7:00 PM). They may need reminders.
(ii)           Offer to serve as a teacher’s helper in crafts, or being a friend to a child that needs help in learning how to behave in church.
(iii)          Offer to be a part of our teams which distribute invitations to homes in one of our unreached neighborhoods.
(iv)         Help newcomers feel at home—get acquainted! Be their friend!
(v)          Help our boys program with their projects. (17 boys are now attending our weekly Royal Ranger ministry)
(vi)         Help remind children and youth to invite others to our next gathering.
(vii)        Be a prayer partner.
(viii)       Please check with Shannon Harkness for clearance before offering to help in any area of ministry. (If you don’t know Shannon, ask Pastor Strum or Associate Pastor Ken Ferry to direct you to Shannon.
(ix)         Please check the place of ministry where you feel the Lord wants you to serve, and let us know of your willingness to serve.
Thanks so much for responding to the call of God!

                        Pastor Richard & Merleen Strum
